2016 Subaru WRX: Worth More than a Second Look
For
the 2016 model year, Subaru’s next and latest iteration of its WRX sedan doesn’t
really come with major design changes, resembling its predecessor quite closely
in terms of looks. The reason for the minimal exterior changes is that company has
pretty much crafted a design that works. Like they say, if it ain’t broke,
don’t fix it. As such, buyers can expect more of the familiar stylings that
make the WRX a winner.
Inside
is a different story though. For the interior, the good folks at a Subaru
decided to kick it up a notch, making efforts to ensure all vital driving elements
are at easier reach. Under the hood, it still sports the same 268-horsepower, turbocharged
flat 4-cylinder 2.0-liter engine. This is coupled with a six-speed manual transmission,
which yields commendable performance when tackling mountain passes, twisty roads,
and the like.
If
you’re fond of fuel efficiency, the new WRX won’t disappoint. It yields a good 20
mpg in the city and an excellent 27 mpg in the highway, thanks to the manual transmission.
For its other trims, efficiency rates are as follows: 18 mpg (city) and 24 mpg
(highway) for the Premium and Limited trims with the special Sport Lineartronic
gearbox, and 17 mpg/ 23 mpg (city-highway) for the STI models.
