Latest Subaru Models Among the Safest

In shopping for cars, one of buyers’ main considerations is vehicle safety, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) helps buyers with their assessment. A car with the IIHS Top Safety Pick status is sure to have met, if not exceeded, industry safety standards. Among the recent vehicles to acquire IIHS Top Safety Pick status are all the latest Subaru models, namely the Legacy, Forester, Outback, BRZ, XV Crosstek, Impreza, and WRX.

With all seven making the cut, Subaru becomes the only manufacturer that has all its models achieving IIHS Top Safety Pick status for six years in the row. Moreover, five of the models, namely the Outback, Legacy, Impreza, Forester, and XV Crosstek, earned the top rating of Superior when it comes to front crash prevention technology.

The Subaru Standard: Boxer Engine

Subaru recently reached a milestone with its 15-millionth boxer engine, marking 49 years of the company's ingenuity. To celebrate this achievement, here's a discussion about the boxer engine and the reasons for its well-deserved accolades.

To understand the boxer engine, it's important to fathom one of the recurring problems of the combustion engine: vibration. Covington and New Orleans Subaru Dealerships: Why Buy a Forester?

Buying a Subaru could be one of the best moves you’ll make this year, particularly if it’s a vehicle that just arrived in the showroom. If you fancied an SUV, the “reward” could get even better as there are models to be had for a really good price. An article by Denis Flierl for Torque News states that this is especially true for the Forester, whose sticker value usually does not drop heavily a year after it hits the market. Citing data from the NADA Used Car Guide’s recent vehicle retention report on revised or all-new units, Flierl gauged the potential of the 2014 Forester against other competitors for the 2014 model year. Analyses of the Forester 2.5i Premium showed that it retained 81.8% of its MSRP after a year. This earned for the car the second top spot in the Guide’s Top 20 resale listing against the Toyota Highlander LE (78.8%), Toyota 4Runner SR5 (77.1%), and Nissan Rogue S (73.1%) - with the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe 1LT leading the pack at 84.7%.

Dealing with Car Dealers for the First Time

You have just received your paycheck and found that you’ve saved enough to buy your first car. Although you have done your research on the car you want to buy, you have yet to experience what it’s like inside a car showroom. These tips can come in handy when you finally find yourself just a few steps away from being a car owner.

Probably the first thing you will encounter in a car showroom is the car dealer’s enthusiastic sales pitch about the vehicles for sale. Most first-time car buyers get intimidated when they realize they have more options than they originally thought; but if you already know what you want, look confident and only ask questions about the kind of car you have in mind.

This is No Punching Bag: The Boxer Engine

The heart and soul of every Subaru vehicle is the boxer engine. It was patented in 1896 and has been also been used by Volkswagen and Porsche. It is named so because the pistons have a horizontal movement, akin to boxers throwing punches. The cylinders are positioned 180 degrees apart from each other, in two banks on either side of the crankshaft. This results in a smooth, shudder-free drive.
